This stately and regal appearing Falcon is the "Merlin." On the evening that I made this image the bird was feeding on large dragon flies over Los Gatos Creek in Los Gatos, CA. He would swoop down over the creek, nail a dragon fly, whisk it up to his perch, pick it apart, eating all but the wings, then swoop down to snatch another. If only I could make my living making bird and wildlife photos.... Ah, but to dream. There are a few wildlife photographers that do earn a living at this, and a good one too. Two that come to mind, (and are my favorites,) are Moose Peterson and George D. Lepp. I truly do love this hobby though.
